Malayalam superstar Mammootty’s film Bramayugam had a strong opening on its first day in the theatres and even on the second day, the film witnessed a great turn out. The box office collection of the film is currently at Rs 5.6 crore, as per industry tracker Sacnilk. Bramayugam started its box office journey with Rs 3.1 crore and collected Rs 2.5 crore on its second day.

The Malayalam film saw maximum turnout during the night shows with 72.65 percent occupancy. This was followed by 51 percent occupancy in evening shows and 36.83 percent and 26.92 percent occupancy in afternoon and morning shows respectively. Bramayugam is doing way better that Mammootty’s last release, the critically acclaimed film Kaathal – The Core. Kaathal earned Rs 1.25 crore on its second day.

The first weekend will serve as a litmus test for the film to see if the excitement continues till the film’s first Monday. The film’s buzz is also credited to the fact that the movie, directed by Rahul Sadasivan, is a black-and-white period horror movie. The film has received good reviews from the audience and critics.

During a press meet in UAE, Mammootty had addressed why they made the film in black and white. He said, “It unfolds in a period prior to cinema’s invention. The new generation may not have experienced black and white to the same extent in films, and this film is apt for such experimentation. I am not saying we don’t have black and white films anymore,” he noted, citing the 2011 Oscar-winning movie The Artist as an example.

Bramayugam also stars Arjun Ashokan, Sidharth Bharathan, Amalda Liz, and Manikandan R Achari in key roles. The film is jointly produced by Night Shift Studios and YNOT Studios.
