Asif Ali ‘never’ thought Mammootty would do horror drama Bramayugam, says, ‘His judgements are unbelievable’

When it was first revealed that Mammootty would be collaborating with Bhoothakaalam director Rahul Sadasivan and taking on a negative role in their upcoming movie, it generated significant excitement among cinephiles in Kerala. The anticipation surrounding their project, Bramayugam, intensified when, on the occasion of Mammootty’s 72nd birthday, the makers unveiled his character’s first look.

The poster showcased Mammootty in a never-seen-before avatar. He was depicted shirtless, clad in a tattered dhoti, adorned with a beaded necklace and sporting an unusual ring on his finger. His expression emitted a sinister aura, accompanied by an eerie smile that revealed stained teeth.

Meanwhile, actor Asif Ali, who was supposed to play the character that ultimately went to Arjun Ashokan due to scheduling conflicts, recently commented on Bramayugam and emphasised that the film exemplified Mammootty’s penchant for selecting diverse and unconventional movies.

Mentioning his astonishment at Mammootty’s decision to accept a project like Rorschach (2022), their most recent collaboration, Asif observed that typically, people tend to be cautious about getting involved in films with such strange concepts.

“But Mammukka (Mammootty) taking up Rorschach did change that perception. His upcoming Bramayugam is another testament to his different choice of movies. I never thought he would take up such a character… his judgements are unbelievable,” Asif said during an interview with The New Indian Express.

“While shooting for Rorschach, Mammukka told me it’s essential to take up such challenging roles, and only then can one do a self-evaluation process,” he added.

Meanwhile, a comment by actor Arjun Ashokan about his experience working alongside the Megastar has gained widespread attention. When Arjun unveiled Mammootty’s first look from the film on the occasion of the latter’s birthday, fans were highly elated.

Beneath the post, a fan commented, “Arjun, you will have to sweat a little more here,” to which the actor replied, “already sweating profusely dear,” underscoring the significant impact of Mammootty’s performance in the film.

Mammootty is currently gearing up for the release of his crime drama, Kannur Squad (Dir. Roby Varghese Raj), which will hit the theatres on September 28.

While his Kaathal – The Core (Dir. Jeo Baby) is already in its post-production stage, the shooting for the stylish thriller Bazooka, directed by Deeno Dennis, is currently underway.
