Tearing into director Deepu Karunakaran for making “defamatory” statements against her, claiming that she was not attending the promotions of their delayed film Mr and Mrs Bachelor, actor Anaswara Rajan has issued a public statement refuting each accusation made against her. She also slammed the director for attempting to tarnish her reputation by singling her out, despite his claim that he had faced similar issues with other actors as well.

In an interview with Manorama Online, Deepu claimed that Anaswara had been uncooperative in promoting the film, refusing to make even a single Instagram post about it despite repeated requests. He expressed confusion over her behaviour, given that she had been “fully cooperative during the shoot”. He further alleged that even after actor Indrajith Sukumaran, the film’s male lead, personally urged her to participate in promotions, she remained indifferent.

Speaking to Reporter Live, Deepu expanded on his complaints, stating that this pattern of noncooperation was not exclusive to Anaswara but had become common among many artistes, especially in the post-Covid era. “Some artistes refused to step out of their caravans without prior payment, forcing me to halt shooting. Others were adamant about specific hotel accommodations. There were actors who even threatened to leave mid-shoot if a certain amount wasn’t credited to their accounts immediately,” he claimed.

In response, Anaswara dismissed these accusations, asserting that she had not neglected the film’s promotion. She also countered the director’s claims by stating that, contrary to his allegations, she had actually taken the initiative to ensure the smooth completion of the shoot at a time when financial problems could have halted production. “When the payment issue arose, even Deepu said, ‘Do not leave the room without receiving the money from the producer.’ Yet, I was the one who took initiative and came forward saying let the shoot be over,” she said, addressing his remark about her allegedly demanding advance payment. She further described his comments as deeply hurtful, both professionally and personally.

Anaswara also clarified that, to date, the only promotional interview for Mr and Mrs Bachelor available online was hers. She also stated that the film’s release was postponed without any official communication to her and that neither she nor the team had been given updates about its status afterwards.

“Mr Deepu mentioned on Reporter channel that certain actors had caused him difficulties but that naming them now would serve no purpose and would not benefit him or the film. If that’s the case, is he suggesting that dragging my name into this controversy somehow benefits him or the film?” she questioned. She concluded by confirming that she had filed an official complaint with the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA), of which she is a member.
