Aadujeevitham actor KR Gokul: ‘I was starving and collapsed on Day 2 of my diet’
KR Gokul, who played the role of Hakeem in Aadujeevitham, shared that he went through immense physical and mental pain for the role.

Malayalam actor KR Gokul, who was earlier a theatre artist, had sent his pictures to assistant directors in the hope of landing a film, and it came in the form of Aadujeevitham in 2017. The actor was called to Kochi for an audition and he landed the pivotal role of Hakeem in the movie. However, it was not a rosy ride for the actor who, in a recent interview, shared he suffered immense physical and mental agony for the role.
Gokul experimented with several diets to lose weight for the role and make the character realistic. He told India Today, “It took a toll on me physically and mentally. I was on a water diet and cutting calories gradually. I had to push myself to the maximum for the last 15 days. I was starving myself and was on black coffee for 15 days. I collapsed on the third day itself. I had to eat something to keep my brain awake.”
It was not just a physical struggle for KR Gokul, who was constantly frustrated, angry, and had mood swings during the process. He thanks his friends and family as they suffered the most because of his mood swings. After wrapping up his portion, Gokul quickly went back to eating everything he loved. He was in Jordan and he feasted on the food in the country. Apart from playing the role, the actor also assisted during the shoot of the film in Jordan.
Gokul recently took to social media to share a picture of of his immense physical transformation for Aadujeevitham. Along with the photo, he revealed that Christian Bale, who went through a drastic physical transformation for The Machinist, was his inspiration for the film.
