Home Ministry seeks Maharashtra govt’s opinion on reducing Sanjay Dutt’s sentence

On May 10,the Supreme Court had dismissed Dutt's plea seeking review of its judgement.

The Union Home Ministry has sought the opinion of Maharashtra government on the issue of reducing the sentence of actor Sanjay Dutt,who is convicted of possessing arms in the Mumbai blasts case.

The actor is currently out on parole,which was extended for 14 days. Sanjay had left the Yerawada prison on October 1 after being granted the parole that was initially granted for 14 days.

The 53-year-old actor was lodged in the jail in May after his conviction for illegal possession of arms in the Mumbai blasts case and is to serve the remaining 42 months of his five-year sentence.

On May 10,the Supreme Court had dismissed Dutt’s plea seeking review of its judgement on his conviction and the five-year jail sentence.
