Shakira’s ex-boyfriend Gerard Pique breaks silence on their split, says he is ‘very happy’

As quoted by Billboard, Gerard told El Pais, “Everyone has their responsibility to do what’s best for their kids. It’s about protecting them. That’s the job of all parents with their kids. That’s what I’m focused on and that’s my role as a father.”

In January this year, Pique made his relationship with his now girlfriend Clara Chia Marti official on social media. There were reports suggesting he cheated on Shakira with Clara.

Talking about his relationship with Clara and the way media covered their liaison, he said, “The problem is how people perceive things or how the press packages it. I’m still doing what I want. I want to be faithful to myself. I’m not gonna (going to) waste money on cleaning up my image. The people that I love and worry about are the people that know me. The rest, I don’t care. I’m putting my energy on the people that are closest to me and giving them what I have. I’m very happy. There’s been changes in my life and I’ve known how to preserve that happiness.”

Shakira and Pique announced their separation in June 2022 by sharing a statement on Instagram, which read: “We regret to confirm that we are separating. We ask for privacy at this moment for the well-being of our children, who are our maximum priority. Thank you in advance for your understanding and respect.”

In an earier interview with Canal Estrellas Shakira had addressed Gerard Piquq cheating on her. She had said, “There is a place in hell reserved for women who don’t support other women,” in reference to Pique’s new girlfriend Clara Chia.
