Robert Downey Jr. bulks up for Doctor Doom for Avengers Doomsday, gives a shout-out to co-star Hawkeye aka Jeremy Renner
Fans of Marvel and their cinematic universe were shocked and delighted when Robert Downey Jr announced that he will coming back to Marvel as Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday.

The entire fan base of the Marvel Cinematic Universe was drenched in sorrow and disappointment when Robert Downey Jr’s character Iron Man died in Avengers: Endgame. Robert’s first stint as Tony Stark came in 2008, and it opened the doors for the MCU and all other characters that followed. The charismatic and narcissistic Tony Stark quickly began the main attraction in a decked-out roster of superheroes, and his death shook even the fans of Marvel Comics, who probably knew that it was a very big possibility. Because of the love and attention Robert had received as the Iron Man, everyone was beyond excited to see him return to the MCU as Dr Doom. The actor recently took to his Instagram to update his fans about his preparation for playing one of the strongest characters in comic history.

In the picture posted by Robert, you can see him in a dry-fit training suit, as he is flexing his left bicep while using the other hand to hold up his co-star Jeremy Renner’s new memoir, My Next Breath. The caption read, “Reading Renner’s book and feeling stronger already…what a journey to wisdom … very instructive…a must read!” Renner decided to pen his memoir after he nearly died last year while trying to save his nephew. Renner who apparently wasn’t aware of Robert’s return, played Hawkeye in the Avengers, a SHIELD agent who was a core member of the superhero group, and he and Tony had a fun relationship with each other, filled with banter and Lord of the Rings references.
Robert Downey Jr as Dr Doom
Doctor Doom is a character that has been attempted by movie studios before as well, but actor Julian McMahon’s portrayal of Latveria’s leader in the 2005 Fantastic Four wasn’t met with a lot of appreciation. Even though the bar isn’t too high for the character itself, the same cannot be said about the movie. Marvel has been struggling to imitate the success of its Phase 4 films, even since Endgame hit the theatres. Apart from a few web series and films like Thunderbolts*, the studio has been having a hard time living up to standards it set with its films from the past.
All eyes will be on the star-studded cast when Avengers: Doomsday hits the theatres in 2026, and especially on Robert’s return to the big screen as a Marvel character.
