Oppenheimer box office collection day 4: Christopher Nolan’s film crosses Rs 50 crore mark, witnesses significant fall on first Monday
Oppenheimer box office collection day 4: Christopher Nolan's film has been doing slightly better business than this year's another big Hollywood release, Vin Diesel's Fast X, but is lagging behind Tom Cruise's Mission: Impossible 7.

It was a great weekend at the movies as Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer and Greta Gerwig’s Barbie pulled people to the cinema halls in big numbers. However, Oppenheimer outperformed Barbie (at least in India) as it registered an opening weekend haul of Rs 49 cr. Barbie, on the other hand, made Rs 18.65 cr. After houseful shows over the weekend, a rarity in post-pandemic times, the Cillian Murphy-starrer earned Rs 7 cr (early estimates) on its first Monday.
Industry tracker Sacnilk reported that the Nolan film had 21.07% English occupancy on its first weekday. The film had opened with Rs 14.5 crore on Friday, which was followed by Rs 17 cr on Saturday and Rs 17.25 cr on Sunday. With this, the film’s total collection in India stands at Rs 55.75 cr. Worldwide, the film has earned over 174 million dollar.
Oppenheimer has been doing slightly better business than this year’s another big Hollywood release, Vin Diesel’s Fast X, which also had a great run in theatres. But it is lagging behind Tom Cruise’s Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, which collected Rs 64.80 cr over its first weekend.
With the back-to-back success of Mission: Impossible 7, Oppenheimer, and Barbie, film trade analyst Taran Adarsh said, “Hollywood comes to the rescue yet again.” He wrote on Twitter, “If truth be told, the fantastic response to these three films at the #BO has proved a blessing for the exhibition sector that was craving for good content, #HouseFull boards and packed auditoriums. Now that #Hollywood has delivered a hattrick at #Indian #BO, one wonders, when will we witness a similar phase for #Hindi movies?”
Oppenheimer is a historical drama that narrates the story of the American physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer and how he became the father of the atomic bomb. The film has Cillian Murphy in the titular role and Emily Blunt plays the role of his wife. Robert Downey Jr also plays a pivotal role in the movie.
The film has been receiving praise from across the globe. Meanwhile, a scene in Oppenheimer, in which the titular character appears to have sex as he reads out verses from the Bhagavad Gita, has left a section of social media users upset. Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur has sought an explanation from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) on why it cleared the movie with the scene.
