Oppenheimer box office collection: Christopher Nolan’s epic drama crosses Rs 100 crore in India in less than two weeks
Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer has entered the Rs 100 crore club in India. The film stars Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt and Matt Damon among others in pivotal roles.

Two highly anticipated films, Oppenheimer, directed by Christopher Nolan, and Barbie, directed by Greta Gerwig, debuted in theatres on July 21. While Barbie has outperformed Oppenheimer at the global level, the situation is reversed in India. The Indian audience has shown strong support for Oppenheimer, featuring actors Cillian Murphy in the lead role, propelling it to join the Rs 100 crore club on its 13th day of release. While Oppenheimer earned more than Rs 2 crore on day 13 in theatres, Barbie earned Rs 70 lakh, bringing the film’s total collection in to Rs 37.55 crores.
As per the data from industry tracker Sacnilk, Oppenheimer’s earnings on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday fell within the range of Rs 2.60 crore to Rs 2.85 crore. With these recent collections, the film’s total earnings have now reached Rs 100.3 crore. Oppenheimer is based on the life of nuclear physicist J Robert Oppenheimer, who is known as the father of the atomic bomb. Oppenheimer also stars Robert Downey Jr, Matt Damon, Kenneth Branagh, and Florence Pugh in significant roles.
Oppenheimer is facing strong competition from Karan Johar’s Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, which was released on July 28. Starring Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh, the film opened with Rs 11.5 crore. Three Hollywood films, Fast X, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, and Oppenheimer, have crossed the Rs 100 crore mark this year in India.
Indian Express critic Shalini Langer gave the film 4.5 stars. A part of the review read, “Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer isn’t just about the chain reaction that is set off when a neutron hits the nucleus of an atom. It’s more about the chain reaction every time great power falls into great hands. Cillian Murphy as that man, Robert J Oppenheimer, is curious and ambitious, but also charmingly flippant, as well as conflicted and broken.”
