Batman’s Arkham series is one of the most popular gaming series in the world, one that showcases a highly comic-accurate caped crusader and gives the players a chance to explore the darker and grittier side of the superhero’s story. Robert Pattinson’s film, The Batman, was a return to that theme, but a sequel to that is still pretty far on the horizon. Meanwhile, PlayStation just announced a new game, LEGO Batman: The Legacy of the Dark Knight, and it might just hold the audience’s attention until we get to the DCU Batman, or Pattinson.

The LEGO Movie was an important moment for Warner Bros, and Batman was so iconic that he got a separate spin-off for himself. Now LEGO Batman is returning with a new game, and this time it’s an open-world game, something never done before with LEGO. According to the trailer, the film will take back the players to the origin of the characters, as he discovers his fears, his strengths and ultimately his purpose. There is an homage to the scene from Batman Begins where Alfred and Bruce are discussing the latter’s plans for the future and his need for turning into a symbol. Of course, the scene and the game itself will be more hilarious than the original story of the character, because it’s hard to showcase something that dark and harrowing using LEGO.

Over-the-top action graphics have been included in the game, that mimic comic book clouds. Players will get a chance to explore the city, according to their free will, and acquire items to build all the gadgets and contraptions that help them during their journey. References to the Batman movies don’t end there, as the trailer includes the iconic scene from the last Batman film, where Penguin struggles to get out of a crashed car as Batman walks towards him slowly, with explosions continuing in the background. This was the same scene that many fans used to draw parallels between Pattinson’s Batman and David Corenswet’s Superman.

The final scene of the trailer features actor and comedian Matt Berry, voicing Bane, as he delivers the “You think darkness is your ally?” dialogue from The Dark Knight Rises. TT Games, who are responsible for other well-known LEGO games, including LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, are helming the project, along with Warner Bros and DC Studios. The film will drop on the market in 2026.
