Napoleon trailer: Ridley Scott, Joaquin Phoenix epic drama to explore various facets of French emperor
An action epic that details the checkered rise and fall of French emperor Napoleon Bonaparte, the film captures his relentless journey to power through the prism of his addictive and volatile relationship with Empress Josephine.

As a result, his name alone is sufficient to generate anticipation among cinephiles for his upcoming project, Napoleon. If that’s not enough, the film also features a talented ensemble cast comprising Joaquin Phoenix, playing the controversial historical figure Napoleon Bonaparte, Vanessa Kirby appearing as Empress Joséphine and Tahar Rahim playing the role of the French politician Paul Barras.
The official trailer of the film, which will hit theatres in November this year, promises a grand depiction of the captivating journey of the French emperor Napoleon Bonaparte.
The trailer commences with a shot featuring Napoleon (Phoenix) positioned atop a hill, his gaze fixed in the direction of the camera, while a multitude of individuals steadily advances in the background. The promo immediately establishes that the story is set in the France of 1793. Furthermore, glimpses are provided in the trailer, showcasing Napoleon’s journey to authority and his subsequent dominance over the French military. Accompanied by the tagline “He came from nothing. He conquered everything,” the trailer sets the stage for an intriguing exploration of Napoleon’s remarkable trajectory.

“I am destined for greatness. But those in power will only see me as a sword,” states Napoleon before taking over as the emperor of the French. “You think you are great,” Joséphine, however, soon corrects Napoleon, “[But] you are just a tiny little brute that is nothing without me.”
The 158-second promo calls Napoleon an emperor, a lover, a tyrant, and a legend at the same time, indicating the film will shed light on the complex personality of the emperor and the different shades in his character.
Bankrolled by Ridley Scott, Kevin J Walsh, Mark Huffam and Joaquin Phoenix, Napoleon is penned by David Scarpa. The film also stars Ben Miles, Ludivine Sagnier, Matthew Needham, Youssef Kerkour and Phil Cornwell in pivotal roles.
While Dariusz Wolski is handling the cinematography of the movie, Claire Simpson and Sam Restivo are in charge of editing the grand movie, for which music has been composed by Martin Phipps. Following the release of the movie on November 22, 2023, the movie will start streaming on Apple TV Plus at a later date.
