Hollywood actor-filmmaker Robert Redford dies at 89
Actor-filmmaker Robert Redford passed away at his home in Utah on Tuesday. He was 89.

Robert Redford was one of the most popular leading men in Hollywood in the 1960s and 1970s. His first credited role was in the 1962 film War Hunt. A few years later, he appeared in the 1969 film Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, which established him as a standout performer. Some of his most popular films include 1974’s The Great Gatsby, 1976’s All the President’s Men, 1985’s Out of Africa, 1993’s Indecent Proposal, among others. In 2014, he became a part of the Marvel universe with Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
As time went by, Robert Redford became known as a filmmaker, entrepreneur and a political activist. He won an Oscar for his first directorial Ordinary People. Redford was later bestowed with an Honorary Award by the Academy in 2002. The actor-filmmaker also set up the Sundance Institute in 1981, which continues to sponsor the Sundance Film Festival.
In 2016, Robert Redford was honoured with the Medal of Freedom by then POTUS Barack Obama. In his remarks, Obama said that Americans “admire Bob not just for his remarkable acting, but for having figured out what to do next.”
In 2018, Redford had announced his retirement, but soon afterwards, he was back on screen for his last film Avengers: Endgame as he reprised his role as Alexander Pierce from Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
