Guardians of the Galaxy 3 box-office collection day 1: The Marvel superhero film is projected to earn between $110 million to $120 million in its opening weekend in the US. In India, the film made Rs 7.3 crore on day one.
Guardians of the Galaxy 3 had a decent start at box-office. The James Gunn-directed Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 had a decent start at box office in India. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film minted Rs 7.30 crore on opening day. Guardians of the Galaxy faced stiff competition from Sudipto Sen’s The Kerala Story, and the two movies went head to head at the box office. The Kerala Story collected Rs 7.50 crore on opening day, according to Sacnilk’s early estimates.
According to Variety, Guardians of the Galaxy 3 collected $17.5 million in previews on Thursday in the US, and $35 million from overseas market. Guardians of the Galaxy 3 is the sequel to Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017).
There were high expectations for the opening weekend of Guardians of the Galaxy 3, with estimates suggesting it could rival the $146 million opening weekend of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. However, reports suggest that the film is now projected to earn between $110 million to $120 million in its opening weekend in the US.
The top Hollywood openers in India are Avengers Endgame (Rs 53.1 Crore), Avatar 2: (Rs 41.2 Crore) and Spiderman Far From Home (Rs 32.67 Crore). The recently released film Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania collected Rs 9 crore on its opening day in India.
The film stars an ensemble cast that includes Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Pom Klementieff, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan and Sean Gunn, among others.
Indianexpress.com gave the move 2.5 stars, and a part of the review read, “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is an even more chaotic, if less zanier, addition to its two previous partner films, and among the many planets it zooms, crashes or just swings through include a ‘Contra-Earth’ and Earth itself. And if that sounds a desperate bit of scientific analogy, blame the writer-director James Gunn.”
