White was the night, as Hollywood stepped into another awards season with the 72nd Annual Golden Globes Awards on Sunday. Even as Kate Hudson, Salma Hayek, Emily Blunt and Rosemund Pike dazzled in all white on the red carpet at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, the shimmer and metallic brigade led by Julianne Moore, Reese Witherspoon and Diane Kruger wasn’t too far behind.

Everyone drooled and paid obeisance at Amal Clooney’s altar, but we weren’t too impressed with the too-large white gloves and staid black column gown on her all-too-slender frame. The ‘Je suis Charlie’ button on her dainty Dior handbag though, now  that, we can totally get behind. Also, we give props to Jennifer Lopez for channelling her inner glam goddess in a tricky kaftan-meets-cape number. Even as we saw flashes of yellow and reds, the clear winner of the style sweepstakes was good old Hollywood glamour. Here’s our top five looks from the gala:

1. Taking the non-traditional route was Emma Stone, who decided to forgo the gown and glamour routine for a silver-sequined bustier jumpsuit with a bustle bow, all custom Lanvin. Lorraine Schwartz and Ofira jewels and Christian Louboutin heels completed her youthful and fun look.

2. The night’s big winner, Julianne Moore (Best Actress in a Drama: Still Alice), sparkled in an ombre
sequinned and feathered Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci gown, accessorized with Chopard jewels.

3. Nominee Reese Witherspoon kept it simple and stunning with a shimmery Calvin Klein Collection column gown and Tiffany & Co. diamonds worth nearly $1.5 million.

4. Kate Hudson rocked a risqué Atelier Versace number with a plunging neckline and sheer panels at the waist. Her Forevermark diamond jewellery and Jimmy Choo clutch didn’t take away from the scintillating skin show.

5. Last year’s emerging red carpet star, Lupita Nyong’o donned a flower bedecked Giambattista Valli gown, Chopard baubles and a Judith Leiber clutch. She further grabbed attention when she took to the stage wearing spectacles, and Twitter acquired a brand new handle — @LupitaGlasses.
