Actor Dwayne Johnson has accepted that he sometimes urinates in water bottles on set, and is habitually tardy, but not as drastically as has been reported. Earlier this year, Johnson was embroiled in a controversy when it was alleged that he was ‘chronically late’ to the set of his recent film, Red One, which led to a severe escalation of the film’s budget.

In an interview with GQ magazine, Johnson, one of the world’s highest-paid stars, reacted to the claims about his tardiness. While he denied the severity of what was reported, he admitted that some of it was true. “I’ve said a thousand times: ‘Hey, I’m here. Come and ask me. And I’ll tell you the truth,'” he said.

Johnson explained, “I pee in a bottle while working. Yeah, that happens.” When asked about being late to set, he said, “Yeah, that happens too.” But, the actor denied reports that he would be up to eight hours late on occasion, and said, “But not that amount, by the way. That was a bananas amount. That’s crazy. Ridiculous.” Calling the entire controversy “bull***t”, Johnson stated that he believes in taking accountability.

Jake Kasdan, the director Red One, came to his defence and highlighted that Johnson “never missed a day of work ever.” The filmmaker, who has worked with Johnson twice previously, said, “He can be late sometimes, but such is Hollywood”, as is the case with everybody. He has a lot going on.” His co-star Chris Evans also appeared to defend him, and compared his conduct to “some things” he has seen on other sets. He said that the entire crew knows exactly when Johnson will show up, so there is no wastage of time.

Red One has received mostly negative reviews. The film will be released in theatres on November 15 in the US. Besides Chris Evans and Dwayne Johnson, the action-adventure fantasy comedy also stars Lucy Liu, Kiernan Shipka, Bonnie Hunt, Nick Kroll, Kristofer Hivju, Wesley Kimmel, and JK Simmons.
