Are Robert Downey Jr. and Ryan Reynolds feuding? Details of on-set ego clash between two Avengers: Doomsday stars surface
Rumours of heated clash on the Avengers: Doomsday set surface, causing reshoots, schedule changes, and possible tension over Deadpool’s return.

New reports of a clash have surfaced from Marvel’s set. John Rocha, who first broke the news of Hulk and The Punisher appearing in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, now claims a joke may have gone too far on Avengers: Doomsday set, leaving one actor fuming and sparking a heated argument. The studio reportedly considered reshooting scenes or adjusting the shooting schedule to avoid further conflict.

Earlier, while speaking with fellow podcast host Kristian Harloff, Rocha said, “They are two pretty big actors. Apparently, a comment, from what I understand, was made in jest that was a bit too familiar, because these actors didn’t know each other too well. It crossed a line. One of the actors got really upset about it, confronted the other actor. [It was said] on the set. That caused a big rift. Two very outspoken actors went at each other…one of the actors…Marvel said, ‘We’ll shoot your scenes separately or without the other actor in it, or we’ll figure it out in some other way.'” Fans on Reddit are now speculating that the two actors involved could be Robert Downey Jr. and Ryan Reynolds, though nothing is officially confirmed. The clash occurred because one actor made a joke that the other found too familiar, since the two didn’t know each other well.
According to Rocha, “That actor felt the fact that Marvel was willing to make those concessions was enough, because they also told this actor that it would cost millions of dollars to shoot scenes without the other actor.” Reportedly, Robert Downey Jr. demanded reshoots for three weeks after being unhappy with a stand-in actor in the Doctor Doom suit. The actor set to take on the MCU’s big antagonist role insisted on performing the scenes himself, a decision that likely cost the studio millions. Insiders say tensions and egos ran high on the Doomsday set, with a lot of disagreements over creative direction. Some even compared the atmosphere to the sets of Fast & Furious films. Despite all, RDJ’s opinion carried the most weight, which may have ruffled a few feathers. Rocha added, “Both actors were brought together, apologies were exchanged, and people moved on. Yes, [they’re okay now]. There have been no other incidents that I’ve heard of. It was a pretty big blow-up, apparently.”
Meanwhile, Ryan Reynolds’ rumoured Deadpool return in Doomsday has only added fuel to the fire, as fans speculate about the dynamic between the two actors. Sources confirmed that Deadpool will appear, though not as an official Avenger, after Reynolds himself posted an Avengers logo vandalised with red graffiti on Instagram. Interestingly, RDJ had previously turned down a chance to appear in Deadpool & Wolverine. Fans have been pointing to the star power and dominant personalities of both actors to guess who was involved in the clash.
Earlier, Jeff Sneider appeared on Rocha’s podcast and revealed one of Marvel’s biggest setbacks, which involved reshooting a major RDJ scene. “I’ve heard that even though they paid [Robert Downey Jr.] $50–60 million a movie, [Disney] had to reshoot for three weeks. They reshot three weeks’ worth of material because, apparently, this is just what I heard, they had an actor standing in for Downey Jr. in the [Doctor Doom] suit,” Sneider said. He also hinted at ongoing tension on the Doomsday set, describing it as full of “testosterone and ego,” a rare situation the Russo brothers usually avoid.
