Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani has a great repeat value. Also, its chartbuster songs are pulling people back to the cinema houses over and over again, expresses Girish Wankhede,General Manager Marketing and Public Relations for Cinemax India Ltd. Starring Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone, the movie successfully ran for three weekends, without being hampered by the fresh releases. In the last weekend, the pan India Cinemax (multiplex) average occupancy of the movie was 45 per cent. The collection in the third weekend was Rs.13.20 crore, taking the cumulative total to Rs.168.42 crore nett.
The movie remained unaffected by the fresh releases Excel Entertainments Fukrey and Vikram Bhatts Ankur Arora Murder Case and Hollywoods big release Man Of Steel.
Fukrey was a good film, unfortunately it lacked face value, and therefore very few people came to see the movie, reasons trade analyst Amod Mehra. The movie however is doing slightly better at metros and multiplexes. At pan-India Cinemax outlets, the films average occupancy on its opening weekend was 50 per cent. In terms of single screens, the Ali Fazal and Pulkit Samrat starrer got an average occupancy of 80 per cent,at G7,Mumbai. Released in 900 screens across India,Fukrey collected approximately Rs.9.82 crore in its opening weekend.
Despite positive word of mouth,Vikram Bhatts medical thriller,Ankur Arora Murder Case went unnoticed at the box-office. As per Taran Adarshs report on Bollywood Hungama, the film garnered Rs.12 lakh on Friday,Rs.40 lakh on Saturday and Rs.45-50 lakh on Sunday.
While this was the fate of Bollywoods new releases, one movie that was being highly anticipated by the theatre owners and trade analysts was the Hollywood, superhero flick,Man Of Steel. According to Wankhede, the movie fell short of its expectations. We launched our (PVR) IMAX screen with this movie, and expected a lot from the movie. It did okay, but we expected it to do even better. Man Of Steel received an average occupancy of 40 per cent at Pan India Cinemax outlets in its opening weekend. Another Hollywood film,Now You See Me that released last week also received an average response.
Meanwhile, the previous weeks release,Deol starrer Yamla Pagla Deewana 2,faded into oblivion, showing hardly any signs of existence at the BO.
