Snake charmers,controversy flavour Katy-Russell wedding
While the duo ensured that their nupitals held an Indian charm, the event elicited controversy for noise pollution.
When British comedian Russell Brand and American pop star Katy Perry exchanged wedding vows according to Hindu traditions at a luxury resort in Ranthambore, they made an exotic Indian style statement!
Decked in traditional style, the duo said ‘I Do’ in the presence of select guests at the Aman-i-Khas resort near the Ranthambhore tiger sanctuary as a priest chanted mantras around the traditional fire.
Brand led the marriage procession in a horse, flanked by elephants and camels. It is the same spot where the improved Lothario proposed to the ‘Rude Boy’ hitmaker this December. To make the wedding a memorable affair, the couple had invited folk musicians and snake charmers to entertain the high profile guests.
R&B superstar Rihanna played the maid of honour.
Trees and flower garlands festooned the luxury tents at the resort illuminated by lamps and colourful lights.
Luxury cars were seen ferrying guests to the high profile nuptials at the secluded venue, near the wildlife resort. Celebrity wedding guests reportedly include Jonathan Ross and his wife Jane Goldman,David Walliams and his wife Lara Stone and David Baddiel.
There was tight security around the wedding venue with private security guards stationed at the resort and other nearby hotels where guests and the couple are staying. Shutterbugs were not allowed into the wildlife retreat.
The menu was a gastronomer’s delight. Though the food was primarily continental, ethnic Indian cuisines like ‘baajre ki roti’,’sarson ka saag’,’gur’ and Rajasthani delicacy ‘rabari’ were dished out,the source said.
Brand,35,was earlier seen sporting a henna design on his hand, which is traditionally done by a bride,as he and some of his friends went for a safari ride.
Clapping and cheers were heard for a brief period.
Local authorities had issued warnings that no loud music will be aloud after 10 pm because it will disturb the wild animals in the Ranthambore National Park.
Rap mogul P Diddy and Indian classical dancers entranced the guests at the event.
Perry got engaged to the “Arthur” star in Jaipur over New Year eve and decided to tie the knot the Indian way.
Now after their marriage, the couple will still need to have a civil ceremony in the US for their union to be recognised there.
The wedding however courted a controversy, with the district administration being asked by Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot to probe violation of noise pollution rules.
Gehlot was in this district to discuss issues related to wildlife and infrastructure and facilities in the Ranthambore National Park where reporters drew his attention to noise pollution during the wedding beyond midnight, following which he directed the District Collector Ravi Kumar to conduct an inquiry.
Sources said loud music blared in the resort till 2.30 in the morning went into clear violation of rules and wild animals in the forest area would have been disturbed.
“Though no specific complaint was made in this regard by locals but as per the directive of the CM following inputs from some journalists at airstrip here, forest and district administration officials have been asked to probe the matter,” said Kumar.
“The officials would submit their report as soon as they find some substantial input in this regard. I had already appointed a four-member committee to check violation of rules in the eco-sensitive area and the members visited the venue on Friday.
“It was a private event and we have nothing to do with it but the resort will be penalized if they found guilty of violation of any rule,” Kumar added.
