The strapless pink gown that Marilyn Monroe wore while performing the popular “Diamonds are a girl’s best friend” has fetched a staggering $319,000 (about 213,000 pounds) at an auction here.

The gown,with an estimate of $150,000-250,000,along with over 1,500 of Hollywood’s most iconic collectibles was one the most notable sale at the Profiles in History’s Three Million Dollar Hollywood Auction 40 here.

The satin gown was worn by Monroe as the gold-digging “Lorelei Lee” in one of cinema’s most memorable song and dance sequences as she performed the “Diamonds are a girl’s best friend” sequence in 1953 film “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes”.

Monroe’s public appearance dress worn at President John F Kennedy’s birthday tribute sold at auction in 1999 for an astounding $1,267,500. This remains as the single most important screen-worn gown in film history to ever reach the auction block.

The Wicked Witch of the West’s hat from “The Wizard of Oz” fetched $206,130 while Julie Andrews’ carpet bag from “Mary Poppins” earned $97,911.

Johnny Depp’s bladed gloves from “Edward Scissorhands” and his Jack Sparrow jacket from the “Pirates of the Caribbean” sold for a combined total of $46,878,while a gilded cup from “Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade” fetched $16,490.
