Even Sonia Gandhi has a foreign connection. So the comparison was logical,” she reasons. Katrina reveals that she had initially planned to refuse the film. “When I first heard the script,I made up my mind to turn it down. I felt this was not my kind of space.” The political aspect of her character comes in much later in the film,she explains.

“Indu,refuses to accept that the person she loves does not reciprocate her feelings. She has no self-respect in love. In real life,all of us experience rejection,sometimes in hurtful ways. I was as honest to myself as I could be while playing Indu,” she says.

Another parallel Katrina draws is between the characters of Rajneeti and those in the epic Mahabharata. “Both the characters in the film and the epic share the same traits and complexities,” she points out.
