After the romantic-thriller,Karthik Calling Karthik,Lalwani would like to make romantic or comedy films. Generally speaking, people in India like escapism. They want entertainment, which is defined as romantic or comedy. Intense films have less takes in India, unlike in foreign countries, where people go for serious movies as well, says Vijay Lalwani, film maker. Lalwani, who was in town to promote his movie,Karthik Calling Karthik, did not restrict to talking about his film only and also spoke his mind on the issues like experimental cinema, and his future plans regarding movie making. About the unique combination of Deepika Padukone and Farhan Akhtar playing the lead characters of the movie,Lalwani says,Farhan has a lot of potential of being a Hindi cinema male lead, however,so far his image is not character bound and that is helping me. My audience will not be able to predict what they will see. And so is Deepika, who is comparatively new in the industry and has no image binding. Moreover I wanted a glamorous face and Deepika fits the bill. Both of them are able to carry of the story well because of their newness, which is making us easy to establish them as an ordinary couple in a not-so-ordinary situation. Calling the film a romantic-thriller,Lalwani says that Indias exposure to this genre of films is limited. Films like Jewel Thief and Teesri Manzil will remain my favorite if I am to pick my favorites from Indian thrillers, he adds. The film is targeted at urban youth, who,Lalwani thinks, will link with it more and are also open and receptive to new ideas. About his plans for the future he says,After Karthik Calling Karthik,I would like to make a romantic or a thriller movie and not an amalgamation like this one. It has been a worldwide observance that a romantic film is always welcome. Any romantic movie, set in any time period attracts viewers.
