John Mayer is not happy with the way his romance with Hollywood beauty Jennifer Aniston ended.

Singer John Mayer is not happy with the way his romance with Hollywood beauty Jennifer Aniston ended.

Mayer, who broke up with Aniston at the beginning of the year, admits that he is yet to get over the actress, who is now rumoured to be dating Scottish actor Gerard Butler.

“I’ve never really gotten over it. It was one of the worst times of my life,” Mayer told the Rolling Stone magazine.

The singer,32,first started dating the actress,40,in April 2008 but their romance was never smooth. They went on to split twice, most recently last January, after which he held an impromptu press conference with paparazzi outside his NYC gym.

And Mayer takes the blame for breaking the heart of Aniston, who is considered America’s sweetheart.

“I burned the American flag. I basically murdered an ideal,” he said.

Instead of moving on,Mayer says he’s stuck on the women he has already dated.

“I have this weird feeling,a pride thing, for the people I’ve had relationships with. I still feel like I’m with them.

“What would I be saying to Jen,who I think is fantastic,if I said to her,’I don’t dislike you. In fact,I like you extremely well. But I have to back out of this because it doesn’t arc over the horizon. This is not where I see myself for the rest of my life, this is not my ideal destiny,” Mayer said.
