It’s good time for experimental cinema in Bollywood: Sudhir Mishra

The man behind cult films like 'Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi' and 'Dharavi' feels actors and directors are finding it easy to make experimental films.

Sudhir Mishra, the man behind cult films like ‘Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi’ and ‘Dharavi’,feels that the industry is going through a great phase as actors and directors are finding it easy to make experimental films.

The manner of producing, directing and acting in films is undergoing a rapid change. “It is good time in Bollywood for making different kind of films. During the 80s and 90s,making different cinema was fraught with all sorts of problems and obstacles,” said Mishra.

He said a new kind of cinema is taking shape and a new India is emerging in which people want to see stories that are connected to reality.

Mishra said he and other directors like Anurag Kashyap and Dibakar Banerjee were making a different kind of cinema.

The ‘Yeh Saali Zindagi’ director said he did not agree with the view that the story in films is losing out to technique.

“Their presence in the cinema today cannot be stopped,” Mishra said.

He said that he hailed from Bundelkhand region of Madhya Pradesh and added that whatever he had got was because of the cultural ethos of the place.
