Indian essence in bridal clothing will remain: Tahiliani
Although lehengas may be getting a Western makeover the ace designer thinks Indian essence in bridal clothing will never run out of fashion.
Wedding lehengas may be getting a Western makeover these days, but ace designer Tarun Tahiliani thinks that the Indian essence in bridal clothing will never run out of fashion.
“For all special occasions, people want to wear something traditionally Indian and deep-rooted in our culture and heritage. We may wear something western for a day or two,but as Indians we always like to return to our roots because we are so proud of it,” Tahiliani said.
Refuting the suggestion that traditional lehenga-cholis are becoming passe,Tahiliani said that for bridal wear, lehengas will always remain the first choice.
He was in the city to present the Tarun Tahiliani Bridal Collection 2011,a larger-than-life experiential extravaganza which presents our rich heritage with the finest weaves, embroideries, jewels, stones and techniques.
“This,we hope, will bring our artisans and processes to the fore, resulting in a new luxurious and fine fit that is uniquely Indian in taste. The exposition this year is a tribute to the artisan hands that pour their energy into creating and preserving works of depth and beauty,” he said.
Highlighting India’s rich heritage but styling it in a contemporary manner, the collection comprises couture lehengas, saris, gowns in fabrics like tulle and silk for women.
Men’s sherwanis with applique and majestic embroidery is worth a second look.
Setting up his design studio in 1990,Tahiliani’s distinctive signature has since evolved as a fusion of textile detail, refined luxury, and meticulous tailoring.
TT,as he is affectionately known, creates couture,diffusion,pret-a-porter and accessory lines, which are Indian in sensibility, yet international in their appeal.
