De Niro helped Damon gain weight

Matt Damon was under the guidance of Robert De Niro to pile on weight for his upcoming film 'The Informant'.

Hollywood heartthrob Matt Damon was under the guidance of none-other-than movie legend Robert De Niro to pile on weight for his upcoming film ‘The Informant’.

Damon gained 14 kgs to play Mark Whitacre in the new Steven Soderbergh film, and asked De Niro to help him through the process because the ‘Taxi Driver’ star had done such a great job of getting heavy for ‘Raging Bull’,Contactmusic reported.

“I just started eating… It felt fantastic putting on weight; I never had that much fun making a movie. I just ate whatever I wanted to,” Damon said.

“I talked to (Robert) De Niro before I did it and he had obviously piled on the pounds really famously for Raging Bull, putting on 60 pounds. I asked him about it and he said,’Well, the first 15 pounds is really fun and then you have to go to work after that.’

“It was true except I found the 30 pounds to be really fun and then, kind of towards the end,I thought I should get rid of this weight, but I wasn’t excited about getting rid of it,” the actor said.

‘The Informant!’ is a dark comedy thriller film, directed by Steven Soderbergh, and based on true events and the 2000 non fiction book about Mark Whitacre ,by journalist Kurt Eichenwald.

The film will be released on September 18.
