Zero Se Restart teaser: A year after the massive success of his biographical drama 12th Fail, filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra has unveiled the teaser of Zero Se Restart, a film that delves into the making of the 2023 superhit. The 125-second teaser poses significant questions to viewers, urging them to pause and reflect on whether they are truly on the path they envisioned as children.

The promo video opens with a black screen, counting down from 20 seconds, as a voiceover invites the audience to recall the day they first envisioned their dreams. He then asks if, when telling their mothers of dreams to become a movie star, doctor, engineer or IAS officer, if they also ever mentioned wanting to sell tobacco to the poor, rob patients and get rich by selling bogus medicines, mix sand into cement and make millions. “Such thoughts would have never crossed your minds,” the voice remarks pointedly.

As images fill the screen, we see a crowd of young people anxiously waiting outside a gate to see their exam results on the notice boards. Among them, the faces of Manoj Kumar Sharma (played by Vikrant Massey) and Shraddha Joshi (Medha Shankar) also appear. “Let’s go back to zero again and meet our lost selves,” the voiceover says, as Manoj and Shraddha break down in relief and joy after passing the civil services exam. The teaser concludes with Vidhu joining a group of students in celebration.

“Each one of us has a ‘zero’ moment – a point where we truly began, filled with innocence and pure ambition. Let’s all head back and reconnect with our purest selves,” reads the teaser description on YouTube. Produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra himself, Zero Se Restart has been directed by Jaskunwar Singh Kohli, with music and lyrics by Shantanu Moitra and Swanand Kirkire, respectively.

Also starring Anant V Joshi, Anshumaan Pushkar, Priyanshu Chatterjee and Geeta Aggarwal Sharma, 12th Fail was adapted from Anurag Pathak’s 2019 non-fiction book of the same title about Manoj Kumar Sharma, who rose from extreme poverty to become an IPS officer.

While Zero Se Restart will have its world premiere at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa on November 21, the movie will have its theatrical release on December 13. In her review of 12th Fail last year, SCREEN’s Shubhra Gupta wrote, “Vikrant Massey-starrer cleaves close to ground reality, with characters that makes you feel that they’ve wandered off the street, dishing out life-lessons laced with dollops of inspiration.”
