‘Rs 4 cr’: Yuzvendra Chahal takes another dig at ex-wife Dhanashree Verma, mentions reported alimony amount in Instagram exchange with Shikhar Dhawan
Days after deleting a dig at Dhanashree Verma's Rs 4 crore alimony, her ex-husband Yuzvendra Chahal has slid in another fresh jibe at the same in an Instagram exchange with fellow cricketer Shikhar Dhawan.
Yuzvendra Chahal takes another dig at Dhanashree Verma's alimony.Ever since the divorce proceedings of cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal and choreographer-influencer Dhanashree Verma earlier this year, the former hasn’t left a chance to take a dig at the alimony he has to pay to his ex-wife. On Sunday came another such jibe from Chahal in an Instagram exchange with fellow cricketer Shikhar Dhawan.
Dhawan shared a photo of himself on his Instagram handle, striking a stylish pose. This prompted Chahal to comment, “Aapke pose peh copyright maar raha hu bhaiya (I’m slapping a copyright on your pose, brother) @shikhardofficial 4 crores only (laughing with tears emojis),” he wrote, yet again referring to the Rs 4 crore alimony he allegedly has to pay to Dhanashree. Dhawan replied in the comment section, “@yuzi_chahal23 Deal pakki (Deal locked) (handshake, laughing with tears, and wink emojis).”
Chahal and Verma were granted divorce by a family court in Bandra earlier this year. Chahal and Verma got married in December 2020. As per their petition, they separated in June 2022. On February 5, they filed a joint petition before the family court seeking divorce by mutual consent.
Under the Hindu Marriage Act, a couple has to undergo six-month cooling-off period before divorce is granted. The objective is to provide time for exploring the possibility of reconciliation. But the cricketer and Verma filed a joint petition before the Bombay High Court, seeking that the cooling-off period be waived in their case as they have applied for divorce by mutual consent.
The couple challenged the earlier family court order refusing to waive the cooling-off period. The family court had refused to waive the cooling-off period on the ground that there was only partial compliance with the consent terms which required Chahal to pay Rs 4.75 crore to Verma. He had paid Rs 2.37 crore till then. But the high court on held that there was compliance with the consent terms, as they provided for the payment of the second instalment of permanent alimony only after the decree of divorce was obtained.
To rub that off, Dhawan even sported a T-shirt with the text “Be your own sugar daddy,” during the divorce proceedings. Last week, he reposted the news of a court order on his Instagram Stories, which stated that a financially capable woman can’t seek alimony from ex-husband. “Kasam khao nahi paltoge iss decision se” (Swear that you won’t backtrack on this decision), Chahal had written in his now-deleted Story.
Meanwhile, Verma, who was a contestant on the reality show Rise and Fall last month on Amazon MX Player, slyly referred to her being labelled as a “golddigger”. The contestants were asked to choose between a gold bag worth Rs 2 lakh and a silver bag worth Rs 1 lakh. Paired with actor Arjun Bijlani, Verma listened as he remarked, “Dekho mujhe diamond, silver thoda suit nahi karta. Mujhe gold suit karta hai (Look, diamonds and silver don’t suit me. Gold suits me).”
Verma then delivered a witty response with a reference to the trolling she has faced. She said, “Yeh line toh main bol nahi sakti. Agar maine yeh line bol di toh jo mujhe pyaar milne vala hoga vo bhi nahi milega (I cannot say this line. If I say this line, I won’t even get the love that I am going to get).”
