Who is Nandita Mahtani? Sunjay Kapur’s first wife styled Virat Kohli, dated Ranbir Kapoor and Vidyut Jammwal

The death of industrialist Sunjay Kapur, who was previously married to actress Karisma Kapoor, has left everyone shocked. Sunday passed away in England during a polo match after he accidently swallowed a bee and suffered a heart attack. After his death, there has been growing interest in his first wife, who, like Karisma Kapoor, also belonged to the industry. Her name was Nandita Mahtani. She has styled a number of high-profile personalities, including cricketer Virat Kohli, actor Katrina Kaif, and Gauri Khan. Nandita married Kapur in 1996 and divorced him four years later in 2000. While much public attention has focused on Kapur’s subsequent marriage to Karisma Kapoor, Mahtani herself has remained a significant name in her own right.

Raised in a business family, Mahtani has long been part of India’s social elite. Her brother Bharat Mahtani’s 2010 wedding was a star-studded affair attended by names such as Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai, Karan Johar, and industrialist Harsh Goenka. Her sister, Anu Mahtani, is married to billionaire Sanjay Hinduja, further strengthening the family’s ties with India’s powerful circles. Beyond her marriage to Sunjay Kapur, Mahtani’s personal life has occasionally drawn public interest. In the early 2000s, she was in a relationship with actor Dino Morea. The two also co-founded a fashion venture called Playground.

Years later, she was briefly linked to actor Ranbir Kapoor. In a 2017 interview, Ranbir recalled being infatuated with her during his younger years, describing her as “beautiful, simple, and warm,” and said she was a complete contrast to the public perception of her as a high-society figure. In 2021, Mahtani announced her engagement to actor Vidyut Jammwal, with the couple posing at the Taj Mahal. However, they reportedly ended their relationship in 2023. Mahtani continues to be active in the fashion industry. In 2024, she appeared as a showstopper in a fashion event alongside Karan Johar.
