Deepika Padukone said she cooked paranthas for her lunch, was domesticated; Karan Johar said ‘nonsense’

At the 2017 Screen Awards, actor Deepika Padukone sat down for a round of ‘Khatiya with Karan’, a desi spin on Karan Johar’s popular chat show Koffee with Karan. They played word-association games, passed playful remarks about each other’s personal lives, and shared their love for Shah Rukh Khan. Deepika was also teased by Karan about her then-rumoured relationship with Ranveer Singh, whom she married just a year later.

Deepika claimed to know exactly how much rice would be needed to prepare ‘khichdi’ for four people, said that she always asks for more water from chaat vendors when she eats pani puri, and tried to convince Karan that she has taken packed homemade paranthas for herself on set. A surprised Karan remarked, “What nonsense.”

Deepika stressed that she cooks food for herself, and said, “I’m very domesticated, Karan.” Karan remained unconvinced. He said sarcastically, commenting on her elaborate gown, “It shows, you look domesticated from head to toe. You have a double personality.” He also poked fun at her when she said that she’d love to give Ranveer a head massage. “You would’ve already done that, wouldn’t you?”

Deepika and Ranveer tied the knot in a private ceremony in Italy’s Lake Como district in November 2018. Some months ago, appearing together on Koffee with Karan, the couple shared their wedding video for the first time with the public, leaving Karan in tears. Deepika and Ranveer are expecting their first child together in just a few days.
