Amitabh Bachchan became the leading action hero of the country after he appeared in films such as Deewaar, Kaala Pathhar, and Sholay, in the 1970s. The actor, who gained fame as the ‘angry young man’ of Bollywood, is known for punching goons on screen, but things didn’t pan out as they do in movies when he was confronted by some real-life goons. Back in the 1990s, Amitabh Bachchan was mugged in Boston and the people who attacked him left him ‘helpless’.

The actor, in a 2001 chat with Filmfare, spoke about the incident, and said that a gang of guys had splashed paint on him in the lobby of a hotel in Boston. The men then pretended to help him and acted like they were cleaning his jacket but then, they snatched his briefcase and ran away. The briefcase contained Bachchan’s documents, including his passport and some money. In that moment, he felt “utterly helpless.”

He shared, “Some five six years ago, I was mugged in the lobby of a hotel in Boston. A gang of six guys splashed paint on the back of my jacket, pretended to clean it and snatched my briefcase which had everything – my passport, money, letters from my parents, postcards from my kids. I felt helpless, utterly helpless in the middle of nowhere.”

He likes to know his family’s around,” Abhishek shared on The Ranveer Show podcast.
