When Aishwarya Rai called Vivek Oberoi ‘a brat’; lauded Amitabh Bachchan for helping her during an accident: ‘He made calls to get chartered plane’
Kyun! Ho Gaya Na, which completes 20 years since its release, starred Aishwarya Rai, Vivek Oberoi, and Amitabh Bachchan.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Vivek Oberoi first teamed up in Samir Karnik’s 2004 film Kyun! Ho Gaya Na. The film held significant importance for Aishwarya on both a professional and personal level. Professionally, her last two films—Kuch Naa Kaho and Dil Ka Rishta—were major box office disappointments, and she was she was rooting for this zesty love story to redeem her career. Personally, this period coincided with a tumultuous time in her life, as she had recently ended her highly-publicised relationship with Salman Khan, a few years after their romance began during the filming of the 1999 Sanjaj Leela Bhansali movie Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam.
Aishwarya met Vivek during the filming of Kyun! Ho Gaya Na, and soon, they started dating. The movie also starred Amitabh Bachchan, who would later become Aishwarya’s father-in-law.
In an old interview with the media, Aishwarya spoke about her experience working with Vivek and Big B and how the two always did “masti” on the set. She also admitted Vivek is “a brat” in real life, much like his character in the film. She said, “This was the first time we were working together, but I had met him before for a film with Vidhu Vinod Chopra. He was hoping for us to do a film together, but it didn’t work out. We didn’t really know each other before this film.”
“With Vivek, what was really nice was that even though he is supposedly a newcomer compared to me, his approach towards the film wasn’t like one. In the beginning, I was like, ‘Oh wow.’ He was very involved with the film. At the same time, he is such a brat, and his character in the film is the same, and he did masti on the set all the time. To add to it, Amit ji. We all respect him completely, he is a pro, and he is an icon, but at the same time, he is always fun. He is straight-faced and fun,” Aishwarya said.
Before Kyun! Ho Gaya Na, Aishwarya had worked with Amitabh Bachchan in films like Hum Kisise Kum Nahin, Mohabbatein, and Khakee. During the promotions of Kyun! Ho Gaya Na, the actor also recalled how Big B had been with her when she met with an accident during the shooting of their film Khakee. “It will always be a pleasure to work with Amit ji in different films. He is an actor and an icon, but he was also a super person. He was there in every which way during my accident. He was very loving, he took charge, and he was on the phone throughout, making the calls to get the plane chartered and everything. He was just there,” she told the media.
Kyun! Ho Gaya Na wasn’t a success at the box office, and it started a controversy when Salman Khan allegedly threatened Vivek Oberoi, leading the latter to organise a press conference against him. Vivek and Aishwarya’s romance didn’t last long either; they parted ways a year after the film’s release. Later, Aishwarya started dating Amitabh’s son and actor Abhishek Bachchan, and the two tied the knot in 2007. They welcomed their daughter Aaradhya in 2011. While Aishwarya and Abhishek have been happily married for years, rumours of trouble in their marriage have been circulating for some time.
