Aamir Khan starrer Ghulam was quite a hit with the audience when it released in 1998. Even before the film’s release, Aamir’s song ‘Aati Kya Khandala’ had become a huge hit but after the release, the only thing everyone seemed to be talking about was his stunt in front of a fast moving train.
In the film, Aamir’s character Siddhu has to run towards a train and jump off the track at the last second so he can win a bet against Deepak Tijori’s Charlie. It was quite a ‘Khatron Ke Khiladi’ stunt for its time and the audience was quite shocked that Aamir had performed the stunt himself. Years later, in a chat with Pooja Bedi for her show Just Pooja, Aamir admitted that it was “very risky” and he “shouldn’t have done it.”
The producer of the film, Mukesh Bhatt, in an interview, said that Aamir did the scene himself. “I was very tensed that day because if he was late by one second, he would have been crushed by the train. He is a very sincere actor and works harder than required,” he shared in a chat shared by Wild Films India’s YouTube channel. Mukesh recalled, “During the shoot, Aamir got so invested that he forgot that his life is at stake. It is God’s grace that he got saved otherwise Aamir would be dead today.”
Ghulam also starred Rani Mukerji and Sharat Saxena and was directed by Vikram Bhatt.
