Vikrant Massey had no idea his Mirzapur character would be killed off, reveals ‘miscommunication’ with Farhan Akhtar’s company taught him lessons
Vikrant Massey shared that he was 'disappointed' when he found out his Mirzapur character Bablu Pandit would be killed at the end of Season 1.

Vikrant Massey portrayed the pivotal character of Bablu Pandit in the acclaimed web series Mirzapur. Bablu quickly became a fan-favourite and left a lasting impact on viewers, but his character was killed off by the end of Season 1. In a recent interview, Vikrant shared that he was ‘disappointed’ when he found out about Bablu’s fate. He revealed that he hadn’t been given the full script for the season before signing the contract, and due to this miscommunication, he was unaware until later that his character wouldn’t survive beyond the first season.
Speaking to Faye D’Souza, he shared, “I was a little disappointed when my character was killed because I had a different plan in my head. That was a massive learning for me, because post that, I make sure that I read the script till the last word or I don’t sign the contract until I know what I am asked to do. There was a minor miscommunication. Because it’s a longer format, the writing process is tedious and it goes on while you are shooting.”
He added, “I signed on Mirzapur as I share a great rapport with the show’s production house, Excel Entertainment. They were kind enough to cast me in Dil Dhadakne Do. I thought that Zoya Akhtar, Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani took a chance on me when nobody was. I verbally said yes and I signed the contract after reading the script for 6 episodes. Then when I read the script of the later episodes, I was like, ‘Uh oh.’ They told me, ‘We thought you read them?’ I said, ‘When we signed I don’t think I was given the last two episodes.’ That was the miscommunication, and I should have been a little more careful.”
During the interaction, Vikrant also recalled the tremendous fan response after Mirzapur released. He shared an incident when the set of his film was swamped by Mirzapur fans who gathered just to get a glimpse of him. “I was in Lucknow shooting for Ramprasad Ki Tehrvi. At midnight, Mirzapur went live. I went to shoot the film in the morning at 7am and by the time I wrapped up the day’s shoot and was leaving at 7 pm, there were hundreds of people at the gate. In those 17-18 hours half of Lucknow had seen Mirzapur and somehow they got to know that Bablu bhaiya is shooting here and they came to the film’s set. It was phenomenal,” he recalled.
Mirzapur Season 3 was released in August this year. The makers also announced that the series will be adapted into a film, set for release in 2026.
