Veteran actor Smriti Biswas dies, Hansal Mehta condoles her death

Smriti Biswas was active in films from 1930 to 1960. She quit acting after marrying filmmaker SD Narang. The actor is survived by her sons Satyajeet and Rajeev.

Veteran actor Smriti Biswas died on July 3 at the age of 100. The actor, best known for her work in Bengali, Hindi, and Marathi films, breathed her last at her house in Nashik due to age-related illness.

Filmmaker Hansal Mehta took to his Instagram handle to confirm the news and condole her death. He shared a set of photos of the actor and thanked her for blessing people’s lives.

He wrote, “Go away in peace and to a happier place dear Smritiji. Thank you for blessing our lives.”

Social media too is flooded with condolence posts for Smriti Biswas with many sharing pictures of the actor from her various films. She was part of movies like Nek Dil, Aparajita, Hamsafar, Hamdard, Chitgaon, and Baap Re Baap, among others.

Smriti Biswas, who started her career as a child artiste, appeared in several films directed by the likes of Guru Dutt, V Shantaram, Mrinal Sen, Bimal Roy, BR Chopra, and Raj Kapoor, among others. In her career spanning 30 years, Biswas shared the screen with notable actors like Dev Annad, Kishore Kumar, and Balraj Sahni.

Biswas made her acting debut with the 1930 Bengali film Sandhya and appeared last in the 1960 movie Model Girl. The actor left showbiz after she married filmmaker SD Narang. After his death in 1986, the actor moved to Nashik. The actor is survived by her sons Satyajeet and Rajeev.
