Vedaa box office collection day 4: John Abraham’s film sees major dip, earns just Rs 2.7 crore
Vedaa box office collection day 4: The John Abraham film's grand total stands at Rs 13.25 crore, about Rs 70 lakh less than Akshay Kumar's Khel Khel Mein.

Vedaa box office collection day 4: It was a three-way clash this Independence Day with Shraddha Kapoor-Rajkummar Rao-starrer Stree 2, Akshay Kumar’s Khel Khel Mein and John Abraham’s film, Vedaa, releasing on the same day. While Stree 2 is much ahead in terms of box office collection, John and Akshay’s films are having a neck-to-neck competition to survive at the box office. Until Saturday, Vedaa was ahead in the number game. However, after the films’ first Sunday, the action thriller stands at Rs 13.25 crore, about Rs 70 lakh less than Khel Khel Mein’s first weekend collection, according to industry tracker Sacnilk.
Vedaa, also starring Sharvari Wagh, earned Rs 2.7 crore on its first Sunday, about Rs 25 lakhs more than its Saturday earning. The film, which opened to Rs 6.3 crore, saw an overall occupancy of 25.33% on Sunday with majority of the crowd watching the night shows compared to morning and afternoon. It had about 481 shows in NCR and saw an occupancy of 24.25%. Meanwhile, the movie had a total of 423 shows in Mumbai with an overall occupancy of 26.75% followed by 306 shows in Ahmedabad and 126 shows in Surat, respectively.
Vedaa is directed by Nikkhil Advani, who previously has collaborated with John Abraham in his 2019 film Batla House, which too was an Independence Day release. Batla House had opened to a whopping Rs 15.55 crore and maintained its numbers in the first weekend and earned Rs 5.5 crore on its first Monday. Unlike Vedaa, the film earned Rs 113 crore at the box office and was declared a critical and commercial success. Vedaa, however, opened to mixed reviews. While the performances of both Sharvari and John were lauded, critics were not very happy with the script.
Shubra Gupta in her review for indianexpress.com wrote, “The film, despite its attempts to stay au courant, goes right back to the way of hidebound Bollywood movies: we know which character will come to a terrible end just by the way the script introduces them; we also know which character will turn traitor as soon as they hove into view. And of course we know who will fight to their last breath to save the day.”
On the other hand, Akshay Kumar’s Khel Khel Mein, which was running behind in the total box office collection, managed to surpass Vedaa’s first weekend collection with a slight margin. The film, which opened to Rs 5.05 crore, earned Rs 3.75 crore on Sunday, taking its grand total to Rs 13.95 crore, according to Sacnilk.
Stree 2, however, has successfully crossed the Rs 190 crore mark in its first weekend. The film is a sequel to the 2018 film Stree–the first film in Dinesh Vijan’s horror universe.
