Vasan Bala says after working with Alia Bhatt, directors will suffer while doing their next film: ‘She spoils you’
In a recent interview, Vasan Bala shared how Alia Bhatt cleverly understands what a director needs in a shot without even communicating it to her.

Vasan Bala and Alia Bhatt recently collaborated for the film Jigra. While the action drama was their first film together, Vasan says after working with the Highway star, directors are likely to suffer when they make their next film. In a recent interview, Vasan shared how Alia is a star with no baggage and cleverly understands what a director needs in a shot without even communicating it to her.
Speaking to Mashable India, the director was shown a picture of him with Alia from the sets of Jigra. In the photo, the actor-director duo could be seen sharing a light moment. Recalling the day, Vasan said, “I clearly remember this day. Because our film was so intense, we barely laughed on sets and I was quiet in my director zone. Usually, sets are funny, but this film lacked humour so the environment on the set used to remain quiet serious. This one day, we had a lighter day and we were just chit chatting and laughing.”

Praising Alia, Vasan said, “I think every director who I love should get an opportunity to work with Alia Bhatt. They will be spoilt and then unki agli film mein band bajegi (They will suffer in their next film).” Explaining his statement, the director shared, “She has no entourage, nothing, she is always ready. Sometimes I didn’t even have to communicate how I want a scene, a gesture from my end would be enough for her to understand what I needed in that shot.”
Jigra courted controversy when a statement shared by Vasan Bala made headlines. In an interview with Tried and Refused Productions, Vasan shared, “I had written a very kachha pakka email, stream of consciousness thoughts… sent it to Karan and 6-7 hours later, he called saying that I have already sent it to Alia and I was really not happy with it.” The filmmaker added that he was unhappy that he didn’t get a chance to correct errors in his script before sending it to the star. ““I was like I would have at least done some spell check, grammar check, hygiene, written some very nice hero entry… That email was sent and I asked Karan, ‘Why did you do this?’ He said ‘No, no this is how it works. Then he said we’ll meet in a couple of days.”
However, this gesture of Karan Johar received a lot of backlash, forcing both Karan and Vasan to share statements on their respective social media handles, clearing the air around the misunderstanding.
The film, also starring Vedang Raina, didn’t do well at the box office.
