Varun Dhawan and Abhishek Bachchan brought an element of fun to the Amazon Prime Video slate announcement event in Mumbai on Tuesday. At the event, Abhishek Bachchan announced two films — one with Remo D’Souza, called Be Happy, and another untitled film by filmmaker Shoojit Sircar. After the announcement of Jr Bachchan’s films, Varun asked him why he was “stealing” his directors, and the banter between the two actors was caught on camera and shared online. Varun has worked with both Shoojit and Remo in the past. He starred in Remo’s ABCD 2 (2015) and Shoojit’s October (2018).
Varun, who was hosting a segment at the event, welcomed Abhishek on the stage and asked, “Why are you stealing all my directors?” Abhishek jokingly responded to Varun and said, “You’re my inspiration. I want to be like you.”
After Abhishek called Varun his “inspiration”, Varun playfully responded to him by saying, “That’s a lie. You are our inspiration,” to which Abhishek said, “Give me your directors or give me your dad (David Dhawan),” as Varun’s films with Remo and Shoojit have brought him a lot of critical acclaim, while his father has delivered commercial hits. To this, Varun responded, “You give me your dad (Amitabh Bachchan), then,” and both broke into laughter.
Talking about his next film, starring Abhishek, Shoojit said at the event, “I’ve always tried to pick up subjects from ordinary lives, and make those characters extra ordinary. All the films that you saw and just make you smile looking at life. So, all the subjects that I’ve done are related to to me, I’ve seen those characters, I’ve lived with those characters whether it’s Dan from October, so this is a similar film where I can assure you that I can make you feel warm.
