Director Sudipto Sen’s The Kerala Story seems to be building momentum at the box office, as on its seventh day in theatres, the film scored double-digit numbers. Matching its day six figures, The Kerala Story made Rs 12 crore on the seventh day as well, as per industry tracker Sacnilk. This takes the film’s overall collection to approximately Rs 80 crore.

If the film continues to perform at this pace, it will reach the Rs 100 crore before finishing its second weekend. This week, the film doesn’t have much competition at the box office, as there are no big-ticket Hindi releases, so it seems like the film will sweep the weekend with ease.

The success of The Kerala Story is being compared to the journey of Vivek Agnihotri’s The Kashmir Files. Both films found themselves in the middle of a controversy with many debating their content. The Kashmir Files was released at a time when most Hindi films were struggling at the box office, and still managed to earn Rs 97.30 crore by the end of its first week, even though it got a slow start at the box office with Rs 3.55 crore, as per Bollywood Hungama. By comparison, The Kerala Story got a stronger start, but it appears that its first week collection will not be able cross The Kashmir Files’. Vivek Agnihotri’s film ended its run with Rs 252.90 crore domestically.

The Kerala Story stars Adah Sharma, Yogita Bihani, Siddhi Idnani and Sonia Balani. The film has been made tax-free in Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Haryana, while it has been banned in West Bengal.
