Sushmita Sen on being trolled after Taali poster release: ‘Nameless people wrote chhakka repeatedly’
Sushmita Sen, who plays the character of transgender activist Shreegauri Sawant in upcoming web series Taali, recalls being trolled on social media after the release of her first look from the show.

The recently released teaser of the upcoming web series, Taali, left fans awestruck by Sushmita Sen’s bold look. In the series, the actor will be portraying the role of transgender activist, Shreegauri Sawant. While Sushmita is receiving heaps of praise for her bold choice, many trolled the actor after her first look from the show was released.
In a conversation with News18, Sushmita shared her thoughts on being subjected to trolls. She said, “The first poster of Taali that I had released had half my face and the clap. I remember that in the comment section, there were lots of nameless people as social media is full of, writing ‘chhakka’ repeatedly. I thought, how can they do that to me?”
Though Sushmita initially took these hasty and hurtful comments to heart, they led her to a profound realisation about the relentless backlash that the transgender community faces on a daily basis. She reflected, “I took it very personally because it was happening on my timeline. I, of course, blocked all of them. But it hit me that if that’s how it’s making me feel when I’m only portraying Gauri Sawant’s life, they’re living with it every breathing moment of their life.”
Through Taali, Sushmita also aims to unveil an unexplored facet of Shreegauri’s personality. Showering admiration upon Shreegauri’s indomitable spirit, she said, “Gauri Sawant comes across as a person who’s very strong, articulate and no-nonsense which she is but there’s also a vulnerable side to her, a side to her she protects from the world. In Taali, I’ve shown that side. I want everyone to see who Gauri Sawant really is.”
Shreegauri Sawant, a transgender activist hailing from Mumbai, is the driving force behind Sakhi Char Chowghi, an organization dedicated to aiding transgender individuals and those affected by HIV/AIDS.
Taali, a series that draws inspiration from Shreegauri Sawant’s life, will start streaming on JioCinema on August 15.
