Sushmita Sen was annoyed by reports of ‘upcoming wedding’ with Wasim Akram, he was ‘far from ready for anything serious’

Sushmita Sen and Wasim Akram were rumoured to be dating after the two appeared on a reality show together.

Sushmita Sen has been buying her own diamonds ever since she started making money in the early 1990s so when in the early 2010s, she was rumoured to be getting married to Pakistani cricketer Wasim Akram, Sushmita quickly reacted to the “rubbish” rumours. Akram too responded to these claims and called Sushmita one of the “most graceful and decent ladies” he had ever met.

Wasim and Sushmita were seen together in the dance reality show Ek Khiladi Ek Haseena where they were both judging the male cricketers paired with female actors for their dance skills. At the time, there were some rumours about the two but these started again in 2013, when parts of the press claimed that Wasim and Sushmita were going to get married.

Sushmita shut down the rumours via Twitter as she wrote, “Been reading about my upcoming wedding with Wasim. Absolute rubbish! Goes to show just how irresponsible media can be sometimes. Wasim Akram is a friend and will always be one! He has a wonderful lady in his life. Rumours like these are uncalled for and disrespectful! (sic)” She also added, “My beautiful people, when I find ‘the one’, you will be the first to know. (sic)”

Wasim also denied these claims and told AFP, “I am tired of denying such rumours and now I want this to end once and for all.” Talking about Sushmita, he said, “She is one of the most graceful and decent ladies I have come across. It was huge fun working as a judge with Sushmita as she is a thorough professional and presents herself gracefully.”

In his book titled Sultan: A Memoir published in 2022, he revisited this chapter again and said that there was no truth to him being linked up with Sushmita. He shared that after the death of his wife Huma in 2009, he was linked up with various women and Sushmita was one of them. “The media had a field day linking me up with a procession of beautiful women, including, for a time, my fellow judge on Ek Khiladi Ek Haseena, Sushmita Sen. The truth is I was far from ready for anything serious,” he wrote. Wasim later married Shaniera Akram in 2013.
