Pankaj Kapur and Supriya Pathak spoke glowingly about Shahid Kapoor's acting skills, and Pankaj described his son as the greatest actor of his generation.

Actor Supriya Pathak said that she shares a fantastic bond with her stepson, actor Shahid Kapoor. In an interview, she said that they bond over their shared faith, and their love for criticising Shahid’s father, and her husband, Pankaj Kapur. Supriya also praised Shahid’s wife, Mira Rajput, for bringing the family together. Shahid was raised mainly by his mother, Neliima Azeem, and began working in his teens to help out financially. He has said, and his father has concurred, that he is a self-made star, and that he didn’t receive any help from his father while taking his first steps in the film industry.

In an interview with Punjab First Voice, Pankaj was asked about the importance of receiving training, and whether Shahid did so as well. He replied, “I firmly believe that one should train themselves in whichever field they’ve chosen to enter. This doesn’t mean that one should join an academy or get formal education, but one can achieve the same level of training even if they work under a director or an actor for a few years. But I don’t think enrolling in a two-week course is enough. Only someone who is exceptionally talented can deliver a great performance after training for just two weeks.”

Revealing his favourite performance of Shahid’s, he continued, “Shahid did a few workshops. He had a background in dancing. That’s where he learned discipline. He’s still just as disciplined. After this, he did a few workshops… It is difficult for me to single a performance out, but I think he was phenomenal in Haider; there is no doubt about it. But that’s because he’s a very good actor. He’s the finest actor in our country in his age group. I am very proud of him, although it feels strange to praise your own child.

Supriya singled out Shahid’s performance as Jab We Met, and spoke about the bond that they share. “We talk about life. We discuss each other’s philosophies…” Pankaj interjected with a joke, and said, “They bond over criticising me,” and Supriya said, “I don’t criticise, I only listen to the criticism.” She said that the one thing that keeps them together is the shared ‘path’ that they are on, referring to their faith in the Radha Soami group. “I pray that we stay this way,” she said. In the same interview, Supriya also spoke highly about her daughter-in-law, Mira Rajput, and credited her for bringing the family together.

In an interview with BBC Hindi earlier this year, Supriya spoke about when she first met Shahid at the age of six. “He is really my son,” she shared, adding “Ruhan, Shahid, Sanah are all my kids. I can fight with them, love them, laugh with them, I am friends with all of them. I am friends with all three of them.”
