Veteran actor Supriya Pathak had just started working on a new film when she met co-star Pankaj Kapur. Little did she know that their onscreen chemistry would eventually translate into an offscreen romance, leading to marriage. While the film, said to be titled Naya Mausam, was never released in theatres, it brought the two actors together, and Supriya said in a new interview that this was its sole purpose.
In an appearance on Twinkle Khanna’s YouTube chat show The Icons, Supriya spoke about her chemistry with Pankaj when they first met. She appeared on Twinkle’s show along with her actor-sister Ratna Pathak Shah. It was a second marriage for both Supriya and Pankaj. Supriya was earlier married for one year before she called it quits with her first husband, and Pankaj was married to Neliima Azeem, but the couple had parted ways by then.
Adding to this, Twinkle said in jest, “I met my husband (Akshay Kumar) on a film and I wish that film had not seen the light of the day.”
Supriya also revealed that many people, including her mother, the late actor Dina Pathak, did not approve of her relationship with Pankaj. “Everybody tried, and I didn’t listen to anybody. I had made up my mind. My mother, till the last few years of her life, still tried changing my life, even after two children. She kept saying that ‘he will leave you’. It has been so many years, and she still kept saying, ‘You made a mistake’. I think Ratna didi supported me,” said Supriya.
Supriya and Pankaj have two children together, daughter Sanah Kapur, who is an actor, and son Ruhaan. The actor also shares warm relationship with step-son Shahid Kapoor and has spoken about their equation with each other.
