For Sunny Deol, there is no one like his father Dharmendra, an actor he feels the industry tried best to silence but his talent continues to shine even after decades. On Monday, Sunny Deol celebrated the success of his latest film Gadar 2, which is doing phenomenal business, going beyond all trade predictions. The movie, directed by Anil Sharma, is a sequel to Sunny's blockbuster 2001 film Gadar, which remained relevant in pop culture through its songs, dialogues and elevation sequences, especially the film's 'hand pump' scene. Gadar 2 ups the stakes and action, as Sunny Deol's Tara Singh goes to Pakistan to get his son back. The plot setting has helped Gadar 2 deliver a hat-tip to the fans, as the 'hand pump' returns in the film, which is then used by Sunny to cause havoc. When asked about the secret of his fitness, Sunny said, "I think the genes from my father, grandfather, great grandfather. It is all in the genes, we will keep going on. Didn't you see Papa did that film recently and he had a nice romantic scene," Sunny said, while playfully nodding, referring to Dharmendra's kissing scene from Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. "This is our genes," he added and broke into a laugh. The kissing scene between Dharmendra and Shabana Azmi became one of the highlights of the recent Karan Johar directorial, which has also recorded healthy box office collections. At the press meet, Sunny Deol spoke about his father Dharmendra and noted how the industry never celebrated him the way the audience did, and continues to shower love on the Deol family. "I've seen a long journey. My father has been in it (the film industry) for so long, our entire family. The entire country knows how we are as a family, we are connected to them. The kind of cinema Papa did, no has ever done. He's an actor who has made a film in every genre and all of them have been super hits. Kaha aaj ka actor ye batayega ki maine comedy ki, drama kiya, action kiya. "There's not one actor today who has done what he did. Pichchle zamane mein bhi nahi tha, sirf papa the. Lekin unhone kabhi bola nahi. The audience was watching, they knew it. Industry remained silent because he was a very big man. It was impossible to become like him. Aise aadmi ke baare mein na badhai ki jaaye toh industry usey shaant rakhti hai. We are simple, innocent people. We don't bother who's saying what. We are just connected with our audience. Even what's happening today, it is what the audience wanted. They kept the film and its characters in their hearts," Sunny said. While Gadar 2 is looking unstoppable at the box office, the actor promised his fans to return with more "good" films and deliver quality entertainment. When asked about updates on the next installments of his films, Yamla Pagla Deewana, Apne and Gadar, Sunny teased what's coming next and revealed how there were some actresses who were earlier reluctant to be a part of Apne 2, but may come on board now, hinting at the historic success of Gadar 2. "All three films have their own space. Yamla Pagla Deewana had all of us together. We made the audience laugh a lot. Many people want us to do the film again but for that it's important to first have a story. I've the story of Apne 2 with me, let's see when we begin it. It's a beautiful story of family values, an extension of what we had shown in Apne. Bas abhi mujhe lagta hai koi actresses thi jo role karne se dar rahi thi, shayad ab karegi," he added.
