(Photo: Sunny Deol/Instagram) Bollywood actor and politician Sunny Deol, who will next be seen in the upcoming film Gadar 2, has shared his thoughts on the issue of Bollywood becoming a hotbed of drug abuse. He highlighted that such incidents often receive attention due to the industry’s association with glamour.
In an interview on AajTak’s Seedhi Baat, Sunny was asked about the media coverage around the abuse of drugs in Bollywood. Sunny said, “Sada hua Bollywood nahi hai, sade hue insaan hai. Aur vo kis field me nahi hai, ye bataiye. Businessman ho, sportsman ho, jaha latt lagi hui hu, vo charo taraf hai. Hum glamour vale hai to unhe humare pe ungli uthane maza ata hai (Bollywood is not rotten, people are rotten. And this happens in every field. Just because we are from the glamour industry, people point fingers at us).”
Shah Rukh Khan’s son Aryan Khan was arrested in October 2021 in a drugs-related case aboard a Goa-bound cruise ship. After multiple court appearances and almost four weeks, Aryan was eventually granted bail. In 2020, the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput caused outrage among his fans, who began pointing fingers at ‘insiders’ in the film industry, whom they claimed abused drugs.
Earlier in an interview with Deccan Chronicle, Sunny had said, “I’ve abstained from alcohol, drugs and parties all my life. I religiously workout and follow a certain discipline. Probably, that has helped me feel and look healthy. Over the years I’ve realised that you cannot control everything. My father is the head of the family but being his eldest son I have to manage the family. I’ve been a big brother to my brother Bobby, cousin Abhay and a responsible father to my sons Karan and Rajveer. Yes, certain things do upset me.”
As for Gadar 2, the film is all set to release in theatres on August 11. The film also stars Ameesha Patel and Utkarsh Sharma in the lead roles.
