Sunjay Kapur’s children have ‘no access’ to Rs 1,900 cr assets transferred to them; his mother says ‘on the road, no roof on my head’
The Delhi High Court heard arguments from the lawyers of Priya Sachdev, Rani Kapur, Karisma Kapoor, over the veracity of the late businessperson's will.

The matter of late businessperson Sunjay Kapur’s last will was heard by the Delhi High Court on Wednesday, after his children Samaira and Kiaan Kapur accused their stepmother, Priya Sachdev, of fabricating documents that leave them without an inheritance. Lawyers for both sides, including representatives of Sunjay Kapur’s mother, Rani, argued about the veracity of the will, which the siblings claim is being withheld from them. Via their mother, Karisma Kapoor, they have also alleged that the will’s existence was not revealed until 11 weeks after their father’s death, leading them to believe that it has been forged. The will leaves Priya Sachdev as the sole inheritor of Sunjay’s fortune.
According to Bar and Bench, Priya Sachdev’s lawyer said that Samaira and Kiaan have already received assets worth Rs 1,900 crore, and that they ‘haven’t been left on the streets’. The lawyer, Rajiv Nayar, said, “When I set up the will, my lady will be entitled to examine if it is suspicious in nature. All this crying and weeping that is going on, just six days before the suit, the plaintiffs received Rs 1,900 crore from the trust. What more do they want? It’s not as if these people are left on the streets.” He said that Priya Sachdev is willing to share the will, on the condition that the siblings sign an non-disclosure agreement.
The court asked, “I don’t know why you should not part with the copy of the will to the children. Of course there can be an NDA. We can constitute a confidentiality club as well. We do this in IP matters routinely.” Nayar also accepted that the will hasn’t yet been registered, and agreed to present it before the Court in a sealed envelope at the directed date. Sources say that the control of these assets remain with Priya Kapur in the RK family trust and that the children have no access to the Rs 1,900 crore inheritance.
Rani Kapur’s representative argued that she had been completely blocked from claiming the Rs 10,000 crore that she feels she is entitled to. “Today, I have nothing. I have written at least 15 emails asking about the will, what are the documents? Not a word has been shared. I have been told that my emails have been compromised. There is something incredibly unholy. ₹10,000 crore worth of assets should have been mine. I am 80-year-old,” she said, via her lawyer. “All gone. I am nowhere. Ms Sachdeva comes in, within three months of her getting married, everything goes? My son today leaves me on the road, with not a roof on my head?” she said. Her late husband founded the family business, Sona Comstar.
Sunjay Kapur died of a heart attack while playing polo in London in June. He was 53. Sona Comstar’s market cap is close to Rs 30,000 crore, and 72 per cent of its shares are held by the public. Earlier, Sunjay Kapur’s sister, Mandhira, accused Priya of getting Rani Kapur to sign certain papers “behind locked doors” while Priya was appointed the Managing Director of Sona Comstar. The next date of hearing is October 9.
