Sujoy Ghosh’s list of favourite 2024 films include Pushpa 2, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3: ‘Dhanush’s Raayan was kickass’

It is not just various publications and cinema journalists who come up with year-ender lists to showcase their favourites of 2024. Sometimes, the filmmakers themselves come up with such lists to tell their followers the trajectory of their choices in the year that went by. One such filmmaker is Kahaani director Sujoy Ghosh, who seemed to have ruffled a few feathers with his choices.

Sujoy’s top five films of the year were a rather eclectic mix that left his fans with mixed emotions. The films that made the cut were Pushpa 2, Crew, Laapataa Ladies, All We Imagine as Light, and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3. While some were appalled with the inclusion of Pushpa 2, some others were surprised to see Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 make the cut.

Some even went on to suggest Sujoy Ghosh should either watch better films or just make a good movie without wasting time watching such films. It was interesting to see the meltdown of his followers, who even asked him to ‘get well soon’ and called the list a joke.

Soon enough, looking at the responses coming his way, Sujoy said, “Some of you appear disturbed by my choice of Pushpa 2. But I loved it ya… I thought it was fantastic. In fact there’s this other film called Rayaan by Dhanush. That was kickass as well. See if you can…” Earlier, when he watched Pushpa 2 for the first time, Sujoy wrote. “I saw Pushpa 2 by Sukumar. What a beautifully crafted magic show. So detailed in every department, mind was blown. Had so much fun watching. and the greatest magician of all Allu Arjun, had me hypnotised.”

Meanwhile, on the work front, Sujoy Ghosh is currently working on the pre-production of Shah Rukh Khan’s next, tentatively titled King. However, there were speculations that he has excused himself from the project, which will now be helmed by the film’s creative producer and the director of Pathaan, Siddharth Anand. There hasn’t been any official update about the same.
