Subrata Roy passes away: Bollywood celebs pay tribute to Saharashri, remember his film connect

Anupam Kher, Riteish Deshmukh and Manisha Koirala paid their condolences on the passing of Subrata Roy, the founder of the Sahara group who had close connection with who's who in the film industry.

Subrata Roy, the founder of the Sahara group, passed away on Tuesday due to a cardiac arrest. He was 75. Popular as Saharasri, he, besides building the Sahara India Group, also established the Sahara One Motion Pictures, the movie production and distribution company behind popular films like No Entry, Wanted and Dor. Many celebrities from the film industry mourned his demise.

Actor Anupam Kher wrote on X, “Saddened to know about the demise of Sahara Shri #SubrataRoy Ji! Met him many times on different occasions! He was always ready to help, kind and larger than life. May god rest his soul in peace! Om Shanti! 🙏🕉 .” Riteish Deshmukh also condoled the death of Roy as he posted on X, “Saharashri #SubrataRoy ji was a kind hearted Man. Always greeted with a big smile and a warm hug. Deeply saddened to learn of his untimely demise. A true visionary. My deepest condolences to Seemanto, Sushanto, the entire Sahara family and loved ones. May his soul rest in peace.”

Manisha Koirala wrote, “The man who never given up during his struggle life. #RIP DEAR SIR 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 #sahara #subrataroy #SubrataRoySahara.”

Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan reportedly had close connections with Roy. The late businessman helped the actor when his company, Amitabh Bachchan Corp Ltd was running into losses.

Recently, a biopic on Subrata Roy was announced on his 75th birthday. Titled Saharasri, the film will be helmed by The Kerala Story fame Sudipto Sen. Though the lead cast of the film is yet to be announced, the film will have music by AR Rahman and Gulzar will pen the lyrics. It is supposed to go on floors next year.
