Stree 2 Release and Review Highlights: Shraddha Kapoor film earns over Rs 50 cr at box office on Independence Day

Stree 2 is expected to earn Rs 40 crore on day 1 of its release, which is also the Independence Day. The film has already earned Rs 19.23 crore India net till 2 pm.

In terms of advance booking ranking, Stree 2 is seventh highest on the list of all-time earners, behind films like Baahubali 2 Hindi (6,50,000 tickets), Jawan (5,57,000), Pathaan (5,56,000), KGF 2 Hindi (5,15,000), Animal (4,60,000) and War (4,10,000).

Shraddha Kapoor-Rajkummar Rao's Stree 2 earhned Rs 8 crore nett from late night paid previews on Wednesday. Earlier, the record for paid previews was held by Shah Rukh Khan's Chennai Express (Rs 6.75 crore).

At one point, the film fetches up in the kind of mental institution that has disappeared from Hindi films for good reason: the inmates being shown in truly objectionable actions is inexcusable, even if the setting leads to one of the movie’s starry special appearances. Really? And despite all the frantic criss-crossing, I could feel the pace of the movie, never the best thing for a movie of this kind which wants you to suspend all disbelief for its duration.

At a Stree 2 promotional event, Rajkummar Rao promised that Stree 2 offers a lot of surprises. "Stree has given us a lot. For everyone's career, the first Stree gave a big jump. I hope Stree 2 will also give another jump. All this has been possible because of your love. I feel absolutely thrilled. It's so much fun to be a part of the film. It is no longer our film, it is your film. Go watch the film and have a great time."

An X user wrote that despite a powerful performance by Rajkummar Rao and an inspired performance by the ensemble cast, Shraddha Kapoor is the clear standout in Stree 2.

At a press conference in Delhi on Wednesday, Rajkummar Rao expressed confidence in the success of Stree 2 and reflected on how the original film had a significant impact on the careers of its cast. According to PTI, he said, “Stree has always given us a lot. For everyone’s career, the first Stree provided a big jump. I hope Stree 2 will also give another jump. All this has been possible because of your love.'

Stree 2's producer Jyoti Deshpande opened up about the film’s clash with the multi-starrer Khel Khel Mein. She said, "There are only 52 weeks in a year. We don’t release films during Hindu rituals (Shradh), IPL, Ramdan, and if some Khan film is releasing or a big South Indian film is releasing that leaves us with only 20 weeks. The clash is bound to happen. So it’s survival of the fittest, the jungle law."

Abhishek Banerjee opened up about his close friendship with co-stars Rajkummar Rao and Aparshakti Khurana on the sets of Stree 2, sharing how their bond enhanced their performances. He said, "I really feel that I can sleepwalk through the film. Also, because we are all friends, it becomes real fun. The camaraderie we share is so heartening that it enhances our work and the process of filmmaking. It's also a genre that we haven't seen before, and trust me, it's even a gala time when we are at readings." Abhishek has also made cameo appearances in other films from Maddock's supernatural universe, like Bhediya and Munjha.

Rajkummar Rao recently opened up about his on-screen and off-screen bond with his Stree 2 co-stars, Abhishek Banerjee and Aparshakti Khurana. He told Zoom, "It hardly happens that you get such great co-actors who also become your friends and brothers and Stree's backbone, foundation is the friendship between Bicky, Bittoo and Jena and we are so happy to showcase that so beautifully on the screen. When the bond is strong off-screen it shows on-screen also. I am grateful to have Abhishek and Apar in the film because, without them, Stree wouldn't have happened."

He added, "The Bromance is there and is very pure because none of us our insecure or jealous of each other, there is nothing negative between us, touchwood. We genuinely love each other in the film and even in real life and well, that shows."

Abhishek Banerjee, who stars in both Stree 2 and Vedaa, opened up about the unique situation of his two films clashing at the box office. In an interview with IndiaToday.in, he shared, 'This has never happened before, not even in my theatre days when two shows were planned on the same day. It's a new and quite crazy experience, but I also find myself in a privileged position. Both these characters are so different from each other and from extreme genres. I feel lucky that the whole nation would watch me in these films.'

When asked which of his films he would watch first, Abhishek humorously replied, 'I think I will have to put a split screen to watch them simultaneously. Or maybe I would toss. Or better, I will watch Khel Khel Mein.'

"Stree 2 will have a landslide win. It’s a one-sided situation. It almost feels like a solo film is releasing. It will attract audiences in both multiplexes and single screens. In fact, Stree 2 controls 50 percent of the multiplex screens and shows," trade expert Atul Mohan told News 18.

Stree 2 is scheduled to open with 1239 shows in the Delhi-NCR region on opening day. As per industry tracker Sacnilk, the film has already collected Rs 3.5 crore in advance ticket sales.

Rajkummar Rao said that during the shoot in Chanderi, they were asked to follow certain rules which included not to burn any 'loban' on set. They took the instructions lightly and burnt the 'loban' anyway. But soon after that, one of the lightboys fell from his ladder and reported that he felt like someone pushed him. Thankfully, he wasn't injured and the team realised that they should stick to the instructions. Rao shared this anecdote on Aapka Apna Zakir.

On Aapka Apna Zakir, Rajkummar Rao, while promoting Stree 2, shared that his first ever salary was Rs 300. He recalled the story of the time when he gave dance classes to a young student and bought groceries for his home with that money.

Stree 2 starring Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao was scheduled to release on August 15, but theatres across the country have scheduled shows of the film from August 14 evening.

On the Sony TV show Aapka Apna Zakir, Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao spoke about theie experience of shooting the film in Chanderi. The actors said that they lived in a modest guest house in Chanderi during the shoot of the film.

Stree 2 has been granted U/A certification by the Central Board of Film Certification, advising parental discretion for viewers younger than 12. The Amar Kaushik film has a runtime of 2 hours and 29 minutes.

Despite clashing at the box wffice with Akshay Kumar's ensemble comedy Khel Khel Mein and John Abraham's Vedaa, the Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor-starrer Stree 2 has maintained a clear lead. The film will see the residents of Chanderi fighting off a new opponent with Shraddha Kapoor's Stree on their side.  

While there is still time as Stree 2 releases on Independence Day, it has already recorded the biggest advance in Bollywood, the record earlier held by Sunny Deol's Gadar 2 (2.74 lakh tickets).

As per Sacnilk, almost 5 lakh Stree 2 movie tickets have been sold already. The interest in the Shraddha Kapoor-Rajkummar Rao film is momentous and the fact that it is releasing over the extended Independence Day weekend will emnsure it breaks records. Directed by Amar Kaushik, the long awaited film takes the story ahead and will perhaps clarify the cliffhanger climax of the first film.
