Aamir Khan has finally unveiled the first poster of his next film, RS Prasanna’s Sitaare Zameen Par. A spiritual sequel to Aamir’s 2007 hit directorial debut Taare Zameen Par, Sitaare Zameen Par is slated to release in cinemas on June 20, after a couple of delays. The film also stars Genelia D’Souza opposite Aamir.

The poster features Aamir not looking very pleased, surrounded by 10 kids. His elbow rests on a basketball, thus hinting at a crucial backdrop the sport will serve in Sitaare Zameen Par, much like how art did in the first part. While that film launched Darsheel Safary as the lead actor, Aamir Khan Productions will launch 10 debutant actors with Sitaare Zameen Par.

Aroush Datta, Gopi Krishna Varma, Samvit Desai, Vedant Sharma, Ayush Bhansali, Ashish Pendse, Rishi Shahani, Rishabh Jain, Naman Mishra, and Simran Mangeshkar will make their debut with the film. They all have a presence and personality each in the first poster of Sitaare Zameen Par, as they surround Aamir’s character.

While the tagline of Taare Zameen Par was “Every child is special,” that of the sequel, as seen in the poster, is: “Sabka apna apna normal” (Normal is to each their own). Aamir divulged details about the film during a recent visit to China. “Thematically, it is going ten steps ahead. It is about people who are differently abled. It is about love, friendship and life. Taare Zameen Par made you cry but this film will make you laugh. It’s a comedy but the theme is the same,” he said.

Aamir also revealed details about his character. “My character, Nikumbh, in Taare Zameen Par was a very sensitive person. In this film my character’s name is Gulshan but his personality is exactly opposite to Nikumbh. He is very rude, politically incorrect and he insults everybody. He fights with his wife, mother. He is a basketball coach and he beats up his senior coach. He is a person with a lot of internal problems,” he said.

“The story is about how he changes. How the ten people, some of whom have down syndrome, autism, different abilities teach him what it is to be a good human being. Originally this is a Spanish film and we have made an Indian version of that,” Aamir added. Sitaare Zameen Par is the Hindi adaptation of Javier Fresser’s 2018 Spanish sports comedy Campeones.
