Kareena Kapoor hosted Shefali Shah in the latest episode of her chat show, What Women Want. During the conversation, the two actors bonded over their love for food and kaftans and also discussed being mothers to two boys. When Kareena asked Shefali about breaking away from the ‘supporting role’ tag, she humbly replied that every project can be an ensemble, if every character gets an equal standing.

Referring to Monsoon Wedding and Delhi Crime, Shefali shared how every character in them were important. The host further got her to deconstruct her iconic ‘cake scene’ in Dil Dhadakne Do, which brought rave reviews for Shefali.

The actor confessed that it was the scene that made her say yes to the film. She also revealed that she met Zoya Akhtar, Reema Kagti and Javed Akhtar after the film released and they told her how the character of Neelam Mehra was the ‘weakest on paper’. However, for the actor, it was the second strongest part after Pluto the dog. Talking about the scene she said that it was a ‘director’s scene’ and any actor doing it would have aced it. “It was such a powerful moment. I had so many people coming up to me after the film saying how they have done something like this too,” she shared. Shefali played Anil Kapoor’s wife in the 2015 film and Priyanka Chopra and Ranveer Singh essayed roles of their children.

The actor also added that since the characters were in Turkey then, the team had called her to ask what she wanted to eat in that scene. “I was offered Baklava but I said give me cakes but with chocolate syrup. I wanted it to look messy and I also didn’t want to choke on the dry cake,” she shared with a laugh.

Shefali Shah, who was last seen in Doctor G, also opened up on the importance of mental health and the conversation around it. She shared how it’s a positive sign to see the young generation take it more seriously. The actor said, “I am so glad that we are becoming more conscious. I keep telling my children that being rich and successful is a different thing but don’t forget to have fun. I love what I am doing, being on the set but it’s important for them to find that balance. It’s thus heartening to see when they decide to go out, give themselves time, and settle down before they face another day.”

Netflix recently announced the third season of Shefali Shah headlined Delhi Crime.
